Downgrading Your PSP

Downgrading your 2.5/2.6 PSP
By: Ataxic Wolf

Note that you should have knowledge of the PSP system before using this guide

Well, you’ve finally grown brave enough to downgrade your precious baby,
your 2.5/2.6 PSP. FIRST READ THROUGH THIS ENTIRE GUIDE BEFORE attempting anything,
use this guide in conjunction with the others linked below; I’ve read all of these, and
I believe this method is best, I definitely recommend these if you are at all unsure of
anything in this guide. I believe this downgrader has a 97% success rate, (however the
3% was probably from stupid n00bs who put files in the wrong place) Also, this program works
WAY better than the normal method. I’ve downgraded 2 PSPs, and both have worked perfectly. Guides: PSP – spot: http://www.psp-spot.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25903

Although this downgrader is relatively safe, in no way do I guarantee that it will work, I also
warn you that if CAN brick your PSP, and you realize that I am not responsible if it does result in
a brick. Follow all instructions CAREFULLY and you should be fine.

Here are some step by step instructions for downgrading your PSP, first make sure of the following:

1. Your PSP does NOT have a TA-082 motherboard, you can check this by opening up the UMD slot, and
looking inside, make sure you’re PSP does NOT have this writing on it.

2. Make sure your PSP is either a version 2.5 or 2.6, check this by going to Settings, system
settings, and then click on system information.

3. It is suggested that your PSP is not a factory 2.6, so make sure you have upgraded in the past.
Instructions: you will need a program in order to downgrade, download this program at: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/605
You will also need a GTA UMD, buy it, or borrow it from a friend.
I highly suggest you format you’re memory stick before continuing, this will delete non-original files,
to do this go to: Settings, system settings, and click format memory stick.

Run the program you downloaded earlier on your PC.

It will come up with a screen telling you not to downgrade if you have the ta-082
motherboard, click the screen to continue.

Click past the GTA UMD screen.

Then click yes, when it asks you if you would like to downgrade.
Now, it will come up with a screen telling you to copy some files, listen to what it says,
and then click to continue.

The next screen is a EULA, click “I agree” at the bottom (only if you agree) to continue.

Then you will need to enter which PSP version you have, BE SURE TO SELECT THE RIGHT ONE! Then click next.

Now it will ask you to select the root directory of your PSP, this is the drive the PSP is in, so browse
until you find it, usually something like “L:” or “K:” or something of the sort.

After that click install, it should install all the necessary files.

After this it will go over some instructions that I will go over soon, once done, simply X out, DO
NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS AS THEY GO BY! Simply read them and wait.

OK, now that you’ve installed all the necessary files, go on your pc, and click start,
run, and type the drive of your PSP, for instance, L:. (another way of doing this is going
to “My Computer” then looking for the drive that your PSP is in)
Now, look inside your PSP’s root folder and double check that there are more files
on your PSP than you started with, you should see a file under the “game” folder called
“downgrader” or “downdater” or something of the sort, I’m not sure, just make sure that it’s there.
Now, plug in your AC adapter and wait until you PSP is about fully charged, once
done, boot up your PSP, and run the GTA UMD, it should load a screen, on the screen
you should see a file called “downdater” or “downgrader” Folks, this is where it gets serious, and dangerous.

BEFORE CONTINUING: this program will not display any warnings, an orange light on the bottom left of the PSP
will begin to flash indicating the hard drive is being used. Make sure that your PSP is plugged into the AC adapter,
before starting, also DO NOT TAKE OUT THE UMD, OR THE AC ADAPTER, during the program.

Ok, after you have checked all that out, press “O” or “X” to run the program, the orange light
should start flashing, just pray and watch. After about a minutes or two, the PSP should restart,
if it doesn’t, (which has never happened to me before) then wait about 5 MINUTES! After the light has
stopped flashing, then reboot the PSP.
Once your PSP restarts itself, a blue screen may come up, or a “Disk could not be read” will come up,
either way, simply take out the battery, wait five minutes, and then put it back in, and reboot. Congrats,
you’ve got 1.5. If you’re PSP doesn’t reboot, and never turns on again, or something else bad happens (this has never
happened to me, however it is a possibility) then I suggest using you PSP as a handy doorstop, or a paper weight.
